East Africa is equatorial so the climate is fairly constant and it is a year-round destination. Tanzania has a light rain season from November to March. This period is known as the ‘short rains’, often no more than a quick downpour each day, followed by clear sunshine. From December to March the weather becomes increasingly warmer with the ‘long rains’ occurring between April and May.

June to August is migration season.

Equestrian safaris do not run from November to mid December or in April and May.

Singita is committed to making a sustainable difference to local communities and to protecting the environment and wildlife.

Just under 10 years ago Singita Grumeti was a gorgeous landscape but it was completely devoid of game. Illegal poaching and uncontrolled legal hunting had resulted in the collapse of the wildlife population. In 2002, the Grumeti Community and Wildlife Conservation Fund was formed: a non-profit organisation dedicated to community-based work, anti-poaching and development.

The Grumeti Fund has established a number of schools and sustainable agricultural projects and in just under a decade the Fund team, Singita Grumeti guests and others have – through their hard work, dedication and donations – helped restore the vast majority of Singita Grumeti resident wildlife population. Through additional and extensive education efforts and the creation of alternative employment opportunities – for those residing around the Serengeti ecosystem – the groundwork for sustainable conservation, in Singita Grumeti (and beyond), has been laid. For full details on all the conservation and community initiatives that the Grumeti Fund has established, please see the sustainable tourism document on our website.
