WHISKY DINNER AT KURLAND HOTEL

Leon Coetzee, Head Chef at KURLAND HOTEL, Plettenberg Bay, South Africa has created a series of intimate food, wine, whisky, Cap Classique and Champagne pairing opportunities at the Estate’s restaurant for guests and visitors to experience as part of an educational cuisine journey during 2011. The first to launch this new series is the 4 course ‘Scottish Whisky Pairing Evening’ on 29 April 2011 at just ZAR300 per person.

In partnership with Distell, the Scottish whiskies on the evening will be Black Bottle, regarded by critics as a truly exceptional dram and the 12, 18 and 25 year old Bunnahabhain.

The decadent 4 courses will be based on a traditional Scottish meal with favourites such as parsnip and apple soup with herb croutons and saffron oil - paired with Scottish Leader whisky, lemon oil poached Scottish salmon with black pudding and a whisky and feta sauce – accompanied with Bunnahabhain 12 year old whisky, Scottish roasted rack of lamb with herb crust, served with summer vegetables and a rich sage and rhubarb jus - paired with Bunnahbhain 18 year old whisky and a chocolate whisky gateau with vanilla pod ice cream and Scottish shortbread biscuits - paired with Black Bottle whisky. The Bunnahabhain 25 year old whisky will be served after dinner as a night cap.

The evening starts at 19:00 and guests are welcome to arrive earlier to enjoy a whisky based sundowner on Kurland’s beautifully appointed veranda to start the evening.

Other upcoming foodie events include:
- 4 May: Leon will present his first 6 course Chef’s Table of the month at a cost of R300 per person.
- 8 May: Mother’s Day in South Africa, a 3 course menu at R250pp
- 25 May: a second Chef’s Table this month at R300 per person
