SEASON

JANUARY – MARCH: GREEN SEASON
At this time of year, Hwange is hot and humid and temperatures hover around an average 30 degrees Celsius during the day. Be prepared for spectacular rainstorms, usually in the afternoons and evenings, and always pack a rain jacket! Rain is more likely in January and February – by March the rains are petering out – but all months are green and glorious. In Mozambique, conditions are similar – hot, humid and with the chance of rain later in the day. Turtle hatchlings start to appear along the beaches from late January onwards.

APRIL – JUNE: BEAUTIFUL SAFARI DAYS
As the rain subsides in Hwange, the bush emerges green and thick and the landscape is beautiful. It’s a fantastic time of year to be on safari, with cool, pleasant days that are particularly good for walking safaris. Evenings and mornings can be chilly, but it all adds to the atmosphere. In Mozambique, it’s a similarly lovely time to visit and one of the best times of year for scuba diving. Whales also start to arrive along the coastline around this time of year.

JULY – SEPTEMBER: THE DRY SEASON
Zimbabwe and Mozambique are in their iconic states at this time of year. Both are enjoying endlessly sunny days that aren’t too hot (or cold) and it’s one of the best times of year to visit for fantastic wildlife sightings, marine explorations and dreamy beachside days.

OCTOBER – DECEMBER: HEATING UP…
In October, the temperatures in southern Africa suddenly start to rise. October is one of the hottest and driest months of the year and in Hwange, the game viewing is incredible. Be prepared to rise early, especially for walking. November and December bring the first drops of rain in both the bush and at the beach, but don’t let that put you off – it’s still a lovely time to visit, and the rain can bring a welcome cool.
