Our decade in a minute

LOOKING BACK & LOOKING FORWARD

At the end of a decade, we reflect over how far we've come. We could not have done it without the support of our visionary members, our valued trade partners, and fantastic industry friends. Thank you for being by our side and here's to new things ahead!

2010 ... the decade begins

I am based in Edinburgh running Classic Retreats and Classic Representation, which already includes THE SAFARI COLLECTION, THE BUSHCAMP COMPANY, REMOTE AFRICA SAFARIS and CHIAWA SAFARIS.
New: DELAIRE GRAFF ESTATE.

2011

2012

We add CHEM CHEM SAFARIS to the portfolio.

2013

AZURA RETREATS and TANDA TULA join the portfolio. We are a team of 3 in Edinburgh and I move to South Africa, set up our office in Franschhoek, and Ilse joins the team. We rebrand from Classic Representation to CLASSIC PORTFOLIO.

2014

We move our Edinburgh office to London. Cara joins the team, we launch GIBB'S FARM and LEGENDARY EXPEDITIONS. We embrace digital marketing with our new website. Our member-branded marketing branches out and we introduce our Res Desks service to members.

2015

Andrea, Devina, Danelle and Liezel join our team. We now have a fast-growing office in Franschhoek and a team of 2 in London. LA CLÉ DES MONTAGNES joins the portfolio.

2016

We launch the first ever Sustainable Africa MEGAFAM and add the first version of ONLINE AVAILABILITY to our website along with a refreshed, responsive site. Natasha, Tiana and Megan join our ranks.

2017

Expanding our portfolio into Central and West Africa, CONGO CONSERVATION COMPANY and SUNDY PRÍNCIPE join the portfolio. Kerry and Kelby join our team.

2018

Brontë, Kimi, Melinda and Manthia join the team. Kimi opens our Denver office and we venture into the outer islands of Seychelles to add BLUE SAFARI to the portfolio. The second Sustainable Africa MEGAFAM is a roaring success. We celebrate 25 years of Classics and finalise our book: VAST Journeys of the Soul.

2019 - our best year yet

We end the decade on a high. The team grows: Simon and Lara set up our LatAm office, Anne-Marie represents Chem Chem and Legendary Expeditions in the USA. Michelle and Dominique join. We add WOLWEDANS and MACHABA SAFARIS. VAST Journeys of the Soul is launched. Megan P joins the team and Lara DY returns as our Sustainability Manager.

2020 ... and beyond

We will continue to pioneer conservation & expeditions in lesser-known areas. Our 3rd Sustainable Africa MEGAFAM will take place in September/October. New website will be developed, including advanced online availability calendars. We will drive a new Sustainability Calculation Model.

In the meantime: have a happy holiday season and we'll see you in January for a rip-roaring new decade!

Our office will close on Friday, 20 December, reopening on Monday, 6 January.

Seychelles

1500km east of mainland East Africa lies an archipelago of 115 islands collectively known as Seychelles. The outer islands, with a land area of 220 km2 make up almost half of the land area of Seychelles and 2% of its population. These outer islands comprise 9 important bird areas, the largest population of giant tortoises, nesting grounds for turtles, over 180 bird species, 320 species of coral, over 1000 fish species, spinner dolphins, humpback whales, bottlenose dolphins, pilot whales, melon-headed whales and even the elusive dugong.

Within the outer islands is the Alphonse Group, the coral islands of Alphonse, St Francois and Bijoutier, about 1 hour's flight and 250km from Mahé. Just over 1000 km southwest of Mahé you find the Aldabra Group, including Cosmoledo and Astove Atolls. An atoll is a ring-shaped coral reef including a coral rim that encircles a lagoon partially or completely. There may be coral islands or cays on the rim. The coral of the atoll often sits atop the rim of an extinct seamount or volcano which has eroded or subsided partially beneath the water. The lagoon forms over the volcanic crater or caldera while the higher rim remains above water or at shallow depths that permit the coral to grow and form the reefs.

It is amidst this vast oceanic playground that you will find Blue Safari Seychelles.
