ZAMBIA: Connect with gorillas, sand dunes and migration
08 July 2019

DID YOU KNOW (yes, stole that from The Bushcamp Company) that while still offering the most authentic, immersive and connected safari experiences, Zambia also has super easy international flight connections into Lusaka.

Today's Monday Minute highlights a few combination gems:

  • INTERNATIONAL CONNECTIONS — with flights arriving from Dubai, Istanbul, Johannesburg, Nairobi and Addis Ababa among others. These hubs create seamless connections from across the world into Lusaka.
  • MOUNTAIN GORILLAS — with a direct flight from Kigali to Lusaka (arrives midday, 5x flights per week), you can track primates on foot and then enjoy a walking safari where it originated.
  • KENYA/TANZANIA SAFARI — various daily flights between Lusaka and Nairobi. The classic, East-African style experience complements the authenticity of Zambia perfectly.
  • SOUTH AFRICA — several daily flights to/from Johannesburg open up combinations with the Kruger, Mozambique, Eastern Cape, and the Winelands to name but a few.
  • WINDHOEK — who would have thought? Enjoy the magnificent landscapes of WOLWEDANS in combination with the best of Zambia. 4x flights per week.
All of the above and more is in our new handy International Flight Access documentfor Zambia.

  • North & South Luangwa — simplicity, that off-the-edge-of-the-world feeling, and soul-fulfilling connection at any of the camps at REMOTE AFRICA SAFARIS.
  • South Luangwa — bush surprises, incredible locations, magnificent walking, and 6 stylish camps to choose from at THE BUSHCAMP COMPANY.
  • Lower Zambezi — phenomenal water experiences on the banks of the Zambezi, incredible guiding and red light filters for night drive action at CHIAWA SAFARIS.

REMINDER: Takwela Camp opens this month

Hippos have been overseeing the construction of Remote Africa Safaris' TAKWELA CAMP (see the opposite bank above) in the remote North Luangwa National Park. Building work is almost complete in time for the new camp's opening on 22 July. Images to come soon - watch this space!

UPDATE: Yoga at The Bushcamp Company

Guests now have access to complimentary yoga and meditation in addition to game drives and walking safaris in the bush. The program is flexible and available to guests of all skill levels. Group sessions are typically during siesta time when the sun is at its hottest, enabling guests to mindfully relax prior to their evening game drive.

Guests can request a personal 2-hour yoga/meditation session instead of a game drive. The Registered Yoga Teacher joins THE BUSHCAMP COMPANY fresh from a residency in Denmark.

DO NOT FORGET: Chiawa combos

The BEST OF BOTH is the perfect combination between CHIAWA CAMP and OLD MONDORO. 5-night combo from US$ 3 490 per person sharing (plus Park and Conservation fees US$ 100 per night.)

FAREWELL: The River Club

At the end of June, we bid farewell to Peter Jones and the team at The River Club. Set in what I still consider to be one of the best sites in proximity to the Falls, we have valued our partnership over the past 4 and half years and wish them all the very best going forward.

Republic of the Congo & Central African Republic

WHAT WE LOVE: The Republic of the Congo and Central African Republic, both former French colonies, are 2 of the 6 countries across which the Congo Basin expands. Second in size to the mighty Amazon, the forests of the Congo Basin contain the greatest number of mammals, primates, birds, amphibians, fish and swallowtail butterflies in Africa. More than a 1,000 species of bird can be found here. The basin is a total of 3.7 million km2 and is home to some of the largest undisturbed stands of tropical rainforest on the planet, in addition to large wetlands. Connecting two of the most iconic locations - Odzala-Kokoua and Dzanga-Sangha National Parks - within this rainforest wilderness offers the most exciting opportunity to discover a part of Africa in a truly pioneering way, while making a significant contribution to the long-term conservation and community sustainability of this region. This is no longer the 'Heart of Darkness'. This is Africa unmasked, beautiful and powerful. This is the most exciting destination to be opening to tourism. This is CONGO CONSERVATION COMPANY waiting for you to discover the most remarkable and unspoilt natural wonders of the continent.

Kwandwe Ecca Lodge

Set in thick vegetation overlooking a dense valley, Ecca Lodge offers breathtaking views onto an escarpment of steep shale cliffs. Expansive wooden viewing decks provide the ideal setting to soak up the bushveld atmosphere with a leisurely lunch or a sundowner drink. Rooms are airy and open, with barely a barrier between the indoors and the African bush. Highlights of the guest areas include the open interactive kitchen, a gorgeous rim-flow lap pool and the nearby interpretive library.

Each of the six stylish suites features a spacious en-suite bathroom, indoor and outdoor showers, separate loo and twin hand basins. Furnishings combine contemporary sofas with venerable old collectables from the region. Wraparound wooden decks lead from sitting rooms and bedrooms to private plunge pools and outdoor showers.
