Roadtrip South Africa - Part 6

#roadtripsouthafrica Part 6 of our 3-month adventure celebrating South Africa.

ROUTE: from Johannesburg, we set off north on the N1 to Waterberg/Limpopo to get to Ant’s Nest. Roads were as busy as normal and we even stopped to pick up Nando's takeaway! As fast-food virgins, this was my kids' first experience of ‘road food’ which was declared as the best day of their life!

EXPERIENCE: Lodges are closed but we stayed with  for a wonderful house party with my brother and his family. While Ant has about 90 horses they are all free grazing in the reserve so we did not ride, instead, we did the most amazing walks. I totally loved this meditative time climbing hills and getting perspective. My girls enjoyed afternoon drives, meeting the newly born rhino calf, together with feeding horses and rhinos. We all enjoyed spending time with Ant and Ralph (the black Labrador) and look forward to returning when they are back up and running for guests.

KEY LEARNING: the Waterberg region is an amazing big game safari playground (very similar to the Laikipia region in Kenya) within easy access of Jhb (no need for flying) and it is malaria-free. Our road trip will bring us back here as I really do enjoy this area very much.
