In July 2012, Kwandwe was bought by USA-based investors, the Chouest Family. Conservation and communities lie at the heart of the Chouest’s investment in Kwandwe. The whole family visit on an annual basis to enjoy all the reserve has to offer.

Wide ranging activities tailored for all ages and interests include big game walks, boat cruises, fishing, boma dinners and picnic lunches, as well as ‘active participation’ activities that allow guests to get involved in a hands-on way, such as the rhino conservation safari. A renowned conservation and community success story, Kwandwe assures a sophisticated safari for the conscientious traveller.

In a ground-breaking move, Kwandwe initiated its own social development arm in 2002, unique to the reserve and the surrounding rural communities. The Ubunye Foundation, is the soul of Kwandwe. Energy and resources are focused on those living in poverty stricken rural areas where access to basic goods and services, in particular education and healthcare, is severely limited.
