In July 2012, Kwandwe was bought by USA-based investors, the Chouest Family. Conservation lies at the heart of the Chouest’s investment in Kwandwe and the important biomes and species it strives to conserve.

At Kwandwe Uplands your Out of Africa experience awaits – an intimate colonial-style safari home, ideal for families of up to 6. Large lawns with pool, private 4x4 safari vehicle, butler, chef, and ranger and tracker team. Set in a malaria-free Big Five game reserve in the Eastern Cape, Kwandwe is the ideal safari ending to a journey along the Garden Route.

In a ground-breaking move, Kwandwe initiated its own social development arm in 2002, unique to the reserve and the surrounding rural communities. The Ubunye Foundation, is the soul of Kwandwe. Energy and resources are focused on those living in poverty stricken rural areas where access to basic goods and services, in particular education and healthcare, is severely limited.
